LaMar Baker attended David Lipscomb College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Harding College. He served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and subsequently became a successful businessman in Chattanooga. Baker transitioned into politics, serving in the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Tennessee State Senate before being elected to Congress. He later served as a regional representative to the United States Secretary of Transportation during the Reagan administration.
