Eldon S. Dummit grew up on a farm in southwest Missouri and graduated from high school in Monett, Missouri. He pursued higher education at Drury College and later earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Dummit began his career as a legal instructor at the University of Tennessee College of Law before establishing his own legal practice in Lexington, Kentucky in 1921. He then served as the 34th Attorney General of Kentucky from 1944 to 1948.
